How Does a Boudoir Photoshoot Work?

self love photography session

So you're interested in a boudoir shoot, but a little nervous and not sure how this whole thing works? Let's break it down and ease that anxiety.

First, let's set up a consult. Depending on your location and preference, we can do this in person or over the phone. You can reach out to me directly through the contact form at the bottom of the home page, or through my online booking page. Usually it only takes a few minutes, but I never put a cap on the time. I want to make sure all your questions are fully answered. If you prefer, we can definitely hash out the details over email as well, I just find having a conversation on the phone or face to face eases anxiety and you get to know me a bit better.

If a face-to-face visit is chosen, I'll have a more private gallery within my sample albums that you can look through while we talk. We'll get to know each other, talk about your vision for your shoot, and your comfort level. At the end of the consultation, we'll either book or part ways. I understand how important it is that you have a photographer who vibes with you and makes you feel comfortable and on top of the world. I strive to do that with every person I meet, but sometimes you just don't jive, and that's okay.

If you book, in the weeks leading up to your session you'll receive your contract, prep guide, and outfit guide.

Day of, we'll meet at the location. Either your hair and makeup will be done prior to arriving, or if the upgraded package is chosen, that'll be completed on site. I'll give you my speech regarding posing, and then we'll begin.

Posing: No, you do NOT need to know how to pose. I will pose you. I'll first show you by doing the poses myself while explaining different techniques to achieve them. I may bring out a reference picture as well.

We'll go through different poses, outfits, props, etc. There will be breaks, laughter, and fun.

Afterward, your gallery will be ready within 1-2 weeks. We'll then set up a date and time for your reveal, either in person or online. This is where we go through all your images, pick your favourites, and decide on your package. There are options for every budget and desire: digitals, albums, prints, wall art, and more.

Digitals are delivered within 3 days of payment, and albums or prints are delivered within 4 weeks of payment.

You don't have to book a consultation if you'd prefer not to. If you're ready to book your session, you can head to my online booking page and we'll jump right in.

What do I wear to a boudoir photoshoot?

horse boudoir

Your outfit is an expression of individuality and creativity, reflecting your personal style and story. From vibrant streetwear to lingerie, fashion allows you to communicate who you are without saying a word. Think about how you feel in certain pieces, or what vibe you're going for. Sweet and innocent? Exotic and moody?

My go-to advice is to try on different options and go with whatever makes you feel the best. After booking, you'll get an in-depth PDF filled with more outfit ideas.
You'll also have access to my client closet. I'm always adding to it, but currently have over 80 lingerie-styled pieces in sizes XXS-3X.
Just because boudoir is often associated with lingerie or nudity doesn't mean it has to be. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident, if that's fully clothed, that's perfect. This experience is all about empowering you, exactly as you are.

Do You Photograph Plus-Size Women?

Yes. A thousand times yes.

Untamed was built for every body, not just the ones that fit a certain mold. I have over 80 pieces in my client closet ranging from XXS to 3X, and I'm always adding more because every woman deserves options that actually fit and feel good on her.

Your curves, your rolls, your stretch marks, your softness, none of it needs to be hidden or "fixed" for your session. My job is to photograph the body you have right now and show you how stunning it already is. I light, pose, and shoot specifically with your shape in mind, because what's flattering isn't one-size-fits-all, and I take the time to figure out what makes you look and feel incredible.

If you've been holding off because you're worried about being "too big" for boudoir, please hear me: there's no such thing. You are exactly the right size for this.

Do You Photograph Older Women?

Always. Boudoir doesn't have an expiry date.

Some of my favourite sessions have been with women in their 50s, 60s, and beyond, women who finally stopped waiting for "the right time" and decided their time is now. Every wrinkle, every laugh line, every silver hair tells a story, and that story deserves to be photographed with the same artistry and respect as anyone else's.

Confidence doesn't belong to youth. If anything, the women who've lived a little longer often walk into their sessions with more self-assuredness than they expect, because they've spent years learning who they are. I'm here to capture that. Whatever stage of life you're in, you're not too old for this. You're exactly the right age for this.

How do I prep for my boudoir photoshoot?

gift idea for husband or boyfriend

The main fundamentals:

  • Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they can dehydrate your skin

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure or spray tans, as sunburns and peeling skin can be difficult to cover with makeup

  • Get plenty of rest and try to reduce stress leading up to your shoot, as lack of sleep and stress can show on your skin

  • Consider getting a facial or exfoliating treatment a few days before your shoot to ensure your skin is fresh and glowing

  • Avoid eating foods that make you feel sluggish, bloated, or gassy

  • Avoid tight clothing or bra straps. I always recommend braless, sundress time on the day of your shoot so we can avoid red, indented strap lines. This includes socks.

Above all, take care of yourself and prioritize your well-being in the days leading up to your shoot. Your skin will thank you, and you'll feel more confident and comfortable in front of the camera.

You'll also receive a full prep guide with more information after booking.

Should I Bring Props to My Boudoir Shoot?

Absolutely. Props can truly enhance your shoot by showcasing your personality and adding charisma. They can be as simple as a pearl necklace or scarf, or as adventurous as handcuffs and a whip. Whatever you wish to highlight in your photos, feel free to bring it along. If you're unsure, we can brainstorm ideas together. Here are some suggestions to inspire you, but don't limit yourself to just these:

  • Fabrics: Sheer robes, silk scarves, lace, stockings, bed sheets, or even your partner's button-up shirt

  • Accessories: High heels (always), vintage jewelry, hats, veils, or glasses (if you wear them)

  • Mirrors: Large or handheld mirrors to create depth and play with reflections

  • Lighting: String lights, fairy lights, or dramatic lighting to set the mood

  • Flowers: Roses or other blooms for a touch of romance and elegance

  • Personal & Themed Props: Favourite books, musical instruments, sheet music, sports jerseys, horses, motorcycles

  • Celebrations: Champagne, or props for milestone birthdays (30, 40, etc.)

Anything Else I Should Know Before My Session?

women empowerment

I recommend taking a moment to stretch beforehand. These poses can feel a bit unusual, as we're challenging your body in new ways and engaging muscles you may not typically use.
Don't forget to bring your favourite music playlist, anything that helps you relax and feel pumped. If you don't, you might be subjected to mine, and it's a mixture of 90's hip hop, country, rock, and everything in-between.

Will you share my images ?

Not without your permission. At the reveal, there will be a no-obligation model release form included that you can look at, read through, and decide what you're comfortable with.
Unless you've signed up for a discounted model release shoot.

Do you offer any discounts?

nude couple

I'm currently offering anyone who signs a full model release 15% off their session fee to help build my portfolio.

I'll always have 5% off the session fee for repeat customers. Gaining your trust and loyalty will always mean something to me. The same goes for word of mouth, that's why I'm also offering 5% off your session for every referral, up to a maximum of 30% off.

You can always subscribe to my mailing list, follow me on Instagram, and join my Facebook page to be the first to know when I launch other discounts or sales. Links below.

If I subscribe to your email list, will you be annoying?

No. I definitely don't want to be that annoying email you end up ignoring or unsubscribing from. That leaves such a bad taste in my mouth, I want to be the business you get excited for when you see me come through your inbox. Plus, I'm a mom of two, a farmer, and once I'm off maternity leave I'll be working full time. I don't have time to annoy the crap out of you. I'm thinking once a month max, unless there's a super exciting announcement that needs your attention after I've already sent my monthly email. It'll be for monthly blog updates, model calls, sales, and announcements. Nothing annoying, and nothing too frequent. :)
