Life can change in an instant. For me, it began with my first son’s diagnosis of neuroblastoma when he was just a baby. That moment reshaped everything—my relationships, my home, and my dreams. This is the story of how I moved from hospital rooms filled with uncertainty to the open fields of Nova Scotia, and eventually to a new life on a farm surrounded by family and hope.

Facing the Storm: Early Challenges
When my first son was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, our world stopped. He was just a baby, and the next six months were filled with chemotherapy treatments, hospital stays, and endless prayers. I was only 18 when I had him, and his father and I were young and struggling. Our relationship was rocky, and after he was two, we separated. His father battled addiction, which eventually took his life in 2022.
During those early years, I was a young mom navigating the hardest chapter of my life. The hospital became a second home, and every day was a fight to keep my son healthy and hopeful. When his chemotherapy ended and he went into remission, I knew we needed a fresh start.
The Leap East: Moving to Nova Scotia
Without a job or a house lined up, we packed up everything and drove east to Nova Scotia. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision, and looking back, I understand why people thought we were crazy. But after the trauma of the hospital and the fear for my son’s life, I needed a new adventure—a chance to breathe and rebuild.
We sold most of our belongings and embraced the unknown. Nova Scotia offered a slower pace, fresh air, and a community that welcomed us. I stayed there for five years, while my son’s father moved back two years before us. Even though he was nearby for some time, I was very much on my own, managing everything as a single mom while he faced his own struggles.
Life Lessons from Nova Scotia
Living in Nova Scotia was more than just a change of scenery. It was a time of growth and discovery. I met incredible people who became like family, and I created memories that still warm my heart. The natural beauty around us was healing, and the slower lifestyle helped me find strength I didn’t know I had.
During those years, I learned to trust myself more. I realized that even when life feels out of control, you can still find moments of peace and joy. I also discovered the importance of community and support, especially when raising a child alone.
Returning Home and New Beginnings
When COVID-19 hit, I felt the pull to return home. I missed my family and knew that chapter in Nova Scotia was closing. Back in my hometown, I stayed with my oldest sister and worked for her business. It wasn’t my dream job, but it gave me stability and time to sell my house in Nova Scotia and buy one here in Sundre.
I decided to pursue my passion for health care and went back to school. This decision marked another turning point, showing me that it’s never too late to chase your dreams.
Finding Love and Building a Family
While working for my sister, I met Billy, who would become my husband. Our love story is full of unexpected moments and laughter, and I plan to share it in detail another time. We started dating in 2021, got engaged in 2023, married in 2024, and welcomed a baby in 2025.
Together, we have slowly started farming. We currently care for 18 pigs and 20 cow/calves. Farming has brought a new rhythm to our lives—one grounded in hard work, patience, and connection to the land.

What I’ve Learned Along the Way
Change is inevitable: Life will throw challenges your way, but how you respond shapes your future.
Trust your instincts: When I moved to Nova Scotia without a plan, I followed my gut. It led to growth and healing.
Community matters: Whether in a hospital or a small town, support from others makes a difference.
Dreams evolve: My goals shifted from survival to education, love, and farming. That’s okay.
Resilience is built through hardship: The toughest times taught me strength and hope.
Moving Forward with Hope
My journey from hospital rooms to farm life has been anything but smooth, but it has been real and rewarding. Every step taught me something new about myself and what matters most. Change can be scary, but it can also open doors to unexpected happiness.
If you’re facing your own challenges, remember that it’s possible to find light after darkness. Embrace the unknown, lean on those who care, and keep moving forward. Life’s twists and turns can lead you exactly where you need to be. Stay tuned to elarn more about me.
